Spinalong records was established by leading DJ Martin Locke began as a music retailer this year. Spinalong’s first store was at 69 Jason Moyo Avenue where they still sell records from to this day.
 

The United Nations Security Council approved mandatory sanctions against Rhodesia, in response to the international outrage aroused by the declaration of independence by Smiths government and concern over the continuing political domination of the majority Africans.

 

Zimbabwe Sun Limited was established in 1968, and became the country’s main hotel and leisure group.

 
The classic green and white flag that came to symbolise Rhodesia was adopted this year. It was a rallying call of unity for the country’s Europeans, but a symbol of the yoke of oppression for the country’s Africans.

Radio Jacaranda began broadcasting. The station was to focus on informal cosy entertainment. South African Shirley Sharp was the station’s only full time announcer/producer.
 
Zimbabwe's largest ornamental fountain was erected in Central Park, Bulawayo to commemorate the city's seventy-fifth birthday this year.
